Saturday: This was the first TV broadcast of “The Wizard of Oz.” It was also one of very few pre-1966 “compatible color” broadcasts on CBS, still smarting over the adoption of RCA’s electronic color system as the American standard rather than their mechanical system. This is TV Guide’s Close-Up listing (before the magazine started using the “Close-Up” title); the regular listing for the movie points out “Although most of film is in color, the first 10 minutes is in black and white.”
Monday: The election’s tomorrow, and here comes an exciting Democratic Party broadcast — well, it must be exciting, since it’s got an exclamation point.
Tuesday: A local Minneapolis show, and that’s all I know. I can only assume that the solution to most of the problems involved a generous serving of Libby’s Baby Food.
