The Sinatra channel is a mashup of the popular standards station from XM with the exclusively Sinatra station from Sirius.

Before the merger, High Standards was exclusively programmed by Jonathan Schwartz of WNEW fame - and with Mel Karmazin running the SiriusXM show, they both go way back.

Some love Schwartz, some hate him. The Sinatra family is not particularly fond of him, and like you would prefer the channel to be 100% Sinatra. But Schwartz is a musical encyclopedia when it comes to popular standards, and it's good that he still has a home somewhere. Check out the Sunday Show from 9am-12pm PT.

Love the post, it was very uplifting and sent a great message. You covered the event well too!
I agree, whether you're religious or not, the stories, especially pre-christian lore, have a lot of lessons in them and things that apply to life even now. :3

Actually Nick Fury predates Snake Plissken by almost twenty years. The character was first introduced in 1963 as Sgt Nick Fury in "Sgt Fury and His Howling Commandos" which legend holds that Stan Lee felt he was at the top of his game after Spider-Man, Fantastic Four, Iron Man, and the Incredible Hulk and bet Jack Kirby that he could come up with the most ridiculous title and still have it be successful. Kirby had to pay up. Sgt Fury was successful enough, but they decided to "update" the character into the mid-60's to cash in on the James Bond craze.
Then they found various ways of keeping Nick Fury a relatively fit 40-ish for the next forty years.
Then they revamped the character into the "Ultimate Nick Fury" based on Samuel L. Jackson.... dammit!

That was really well written, Kevin. Honestly, I never even looked at it that way, and you had a very interesting perspective on the whole debacle.

I was thrilled the show lasted as long as it did. Smart, funny female characters are in short supply on TV, and I enjoyed Amita as much as you did, Kevin. I was not trusting of the casting of Rob Morrow, because his Northern Exposure character was so different from what was required for this role. I was proven wrong, time and again. I will miss this show.
